Power-Off Brake For Short Axial Shaft

This brake was designed for a retrofit application requiring a minimum of 600 pound inches of torque to hold a shaft stationary when air pressure (power) is absent. The brake also needed to fully release with the application of 60 PSI. Ample radial space was available to connect the brake housing, but only 2.125 inches of un-keyed, 1.687 Inch round shafting extended from the machine frame.

Mach III designed this custom brake that attaches to the machine frame on a 6.563 bolt circle. A shrink disc locks the brake hub onto the short shaft. With a torque capacity of 1,200 pound inches, the brake provides a 2:1 safety factor and fully releases at 59 PSI.
