End of Shaft, Spring Engaged
Pilot Mount High Torque Heavy Duty Clutches
Operation
- Friction type heavy duty clutch is engaged with spring pressure
- A fixed amount of torque is transmitted
- To release clutch, air pressure is applied to overcome the spring pressure
Mounting
- End of Shaft
- Heavy duty clutch slides on shaft and is fixed with set screws and a customer supplied key
- No anti-rotation arm required
- Heavy duty clutches are designed for horizontal mounting. If vertical mounting is required, consult engineering for options.
Applications
- Heavy duty spring engaged clutches are suitable for applications requiring the clutch to remain engaged in the absence of air pressure or during a loss of power
- Not suitable for cycling applications
- Maximum RPM varies by model. Please consult the detail sheets (below). Consult engineering if the intended application exceeds the listed maximum RPM.
Design Features
- Heavy duty clutches are bored to suit up to the maximum shown for easy installation
- Splined drive and toothed friction discs for heavy duty service
- Machined pilot for easy mounting of pulley or sprocket
- Enclosed design for dirty environments
- High torque in limited space
- Includes rotary air seal

Additional Information
Mach III heavy duty clutch units are solidly constructed with splined drives and toothed friction to provide reliable power transmission. The clutch pilot is machined for easy mounting of a sprocket or pulley in the field, or, Mach III can provide a sprocket, pulley or v-belt sheave pre-mounted on the heavy duty clutch when it ships from our factory. Heavy duty clutch models can be adapted to accommodate customer needs. See our Custom Designs Solutions page for more information. Mach III encourages contact with our engineering department before purchasing a heavy duty clutch for use in a new or retrofit application.
