Connect & Disconnect Applications
The products featured below are friction clutches and clutch mechanisms used to connect and disconnect a source of power, such as a continuously rotating motor, and a machine component, such as a shaft.
- Air engaged models transmit torque that is proportional to the amount of air pressure applied. When air pressure is absent, springs provide positive separation of drive discs so that torque is no longer transmitted.
- Spring engaged models transmit a fixed amount of torque. To release the brake, air pressure is applied to overcome the spring pressure.
For both types, disengagement means only the absence of torque transmission. If holding of the machine component is required when disengaged, then a combination clutch-brake is required.
